Step 1: Read the Call for Proposals

The Call for Proposals specifies all the requirements for complete grant applications. Read it carefully and take note of all deadlines and format specifications. Pay special attention to the TSNRP research priorities.

Step 2: Review Funded Studies

Be familiar with the research TSNRP already funds to avoid duplicative submissions.

Step 3: Submit Letter of Intent

The Letter of Intent is mandatory. It assists TSNRP in selecting nurse scientists with the appropriate expertise to serve on the scientific review panel for your application.

Submission of a Letter of Intent is not a commitment to submit an application. You may receive feedback regarding the content of your letter.

Step 4: Complete Application Forms

Following the instructions in the Call for Proposals, complete all necessary application forms. If you have any questions, contact TSNRP staff for guidance.

Step 5: Review Application Materials

Thoroughly review each piece of your application to ensure that all information is accurate and complete and that it conforms to the application requirements. Verify your references and conduct a full spelling check.

Step 6: Create Paper Application Package

The Call for Proposals provides specific instructions for what must be included in your final application package. Submit one original and four copies of all forms and appendices. Secure application materials with rubber bands (no staples, clips, or binders).

Step 7: Create Electronic Application Package

A CD containing an electronic version of all application forms and appendices must accompany the paper submission. All documents should be in Microsoft Word or Excel. Only letters of support and instruments (e.g., questionnaires) may be in PDF. Carefully follow the file-naming instructions in the Call for Proposals.

Microsoft Office 2007 users: Save all files down to Word 97-2003 (.doc) or Excel 97-2003 (.xls) formats. TSNRP cannot accept files saved in Office 2007 (.docx, .xlsx) formats.

Step 8: Submit Application by Deadline

TSNRP must receive your application by 4 p.m. EST on the due date. Late applications and applications that exceed the funding award limits will not be considered for review.

Step 9: Confirm Receipt

TSNRP will notify you within 48 hours of application receipt.

The Executive Director has the option of requesting any missing or incomplete documents, which must be submitted within 72 hours of the request.

Step 10: Begin IRB/IACUC Approval Process

To avoid project start-up delays, begin the process of obtaining institutional review board (IRB) and/or institutional animal care and use committee (IACUC) approval during the time between submitting the proposal for funding and award notification.
