Charge from Dr. Rice to the USU Task Force on the Clinical Faculty
There is a recurring theme of dissatisfaction in many of our teaching hospitals with our current system of faculty appointments and promotions. If USU is to serve as the educational center of the Military Health System (MHS), we need a full cadre of dedicated and talented clinical faculty. I have convened this task force in order to study the current problems, and to provide me with new ideas to optimize our appointment and promotion system in order to appropriately recognize and reward the hundreds of dedicated clinical faculty who serve USU throughout the MHS.
The areas I expect this task force to examine include the following:
- Does our current system of appointment and promotion reflect the university's core mission?
- Does the current system acknowledge Boyer's four domains of scholarship?
- Are there best practices from other universities that we ought to consider?
I look forward to receiving the Task Force's findings and recommendations.
