OEM Residency Mission, Goals & Objectives
To develop physician leaders in occupational and environmental medicine who expertly apply knowledge, skills, and abilities to the full scope of occupational and environmental medicine practice, at both the population health and individual patient level.
Residency Objectives
- Residents will attain the ACGME core clinical competencies and those specialty competencies in Occupational Medicine & Preventive Medicine defined by the Residency Review Committee of the American College of Preventive Medicine.
- Residents will earn a Master of Public Health degree and take core courses in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Toxicology, Industrial Hygiene, Health Services Administration, Environmental Health, Behavioral Aspects of Health, Safety and Ergonomics, Risk Communication and Clinical Occupational Medicine.
- Residents will complete a practicum year and gain hands-on experience directing patient care in clinical occupational medicine and they will be given progressively increasing levels of responsibility as competency increases.
- Residents will be trained and demonstrate knowledge of military unique occupational exposures in a wide variety of military settings.
- Residents will attain population health competencies that put them on track to be senior health care leaders for the Department of Defense.
