ASPET Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program
Due to loss of funding, the Department will NOT sponsor a Summer Undergraduate Research Program for Summer, 2009
Statement of Aims - The Summer Undergraduate Research Program
The purpose of this program is to introduce gifted undergraduate students to pharmacology research and to provide information on opportunities for research-oriented careers in pharmacology and other biomedical sciences. The Department of Pharmacology at USUHS serves as one of the host departments for the prestigious ASPET (American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics) program. The USUHS ASPET SURF program is jointly sponsored by ASPET and the Henry M. Jackson Foundation.
The Program
The ASPET SURF fellowships at USUHS are awarded on a competitive basis to students who show a strong interest and commitment to pursuing a career in biomedical research.
SURF participants will work for 10 weeks in the summer of 2006 under the mentorship of faculty members of the Department of Pharmacology. SURF fellows will be assigned a specific research project and will use state-of-the-art techniques and equipment. Fellows will receive all necessary instruction and will work closely with faculty and postdoctoral fellows to ensure a meaningful research experience. Current projects in the department include research into epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, signal transduction, Parkinsons Disease, receptor pharmacology, opiate pharmacology and neuronal cell biology. For further details of Departmental research, please see http://www.usuhs.mil/pha/research.html.
2 June 2008 - 8 August 2008
