For the Researcher
Here at USU, we advance research and technologies that ensure the uncompromised performance of our troops, on and off the field. We invite fellow researchers to participate and collaborate in our ongoing mission to optimize human performance of our warfighters. Located on the Bethesda Naval Medical Center Campus, we conduct interdisciplinary research using state-of-the-art facilities with a particular focus on the physiological challenges that pose a significant threat to our forces. Our laboratories are fully equipped to study thermal stress, exercise stress and adaptations, and the genetics associated with performance. Areas of research focus include:
- Exertional rhabdomyolysis
- Functional movement screening
- Heat illness
- Botulinum Toxin A and chronic lumbar pain relief
- HPA,stress reactivity, and weight control
- Dietary Supplements
- Ethnicity and Health Disparities
- Malignant Hyperthermia
- Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention
In the spirit of collaboration and to facilitate effective knowledge transfer, we recently hosted workshops on Food Allergies and Warfighter Nutrition. This fall, we are gathering leading experts to address the issue of heat illness in a joint conference with DOD, and in partnership with the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), entitled Heat Illness: Return to Play/Duty.
