Student Life
Although USU students come from all parts of the United States, the campus itself has a small town feeling that unites the community of scholars.
The academic environment is very supportive because everyone is working toward the common goal of advancing military and public health medicine. This feeling of a shared purpose encourages camaraderie among the students instead of the competition so common in medical schools across the country.
USU knows that much of the university experience happens beyond the classroom walls and therefore offers a full complement of athletic programs and student clubs from hockey to an a cappella group. These social activities engage students in meaningful interactions and provide welcome breaks from the rigors of academia.
The natural beauty of the campus grounds is another reason why USU is a great place to learn. Vibrant flowers, towering trees and lush green space surround the university. The man-made lake and nearby hiking trails add to the attractive landscape.
The School of Medicine's park-like setting makes it easy to forget the university is located in a bustling metropolitan area, just minutes from Washington, D.C. This central location is ideal for students wishing to explore one of the world's most cosmopolitan cities. Restaurants, theater experiences, museums, national monuments and many other exciting activities are just a metro ride away.
