MEMORANDUM FOR FACULTY AND STAFF
SUBJECT: Evaluation Committee
1. Purpose/Focus
The Evaluation Committee was established for the USU Graduate School of Nursing (GSN) to prepare methods and tools for the evaluation of all student/alumni perceptions of the School's courses and programs. Additionally, the Committee has oversight of the ongoing administration of the evaluation program relative to student outcomes. The Committee adopted as its central focus that evaluation shall be geared to short and long range student/alumni outcomes which shall be included in the content of all its evaluation tools.
2. Evaluation Process
The Evaluation Committee is committed to maximizing the validity and reliability of tools used in the evaluation process. Evaluation Committee activities are described in the GSN Evaluation Manual which was developed and is updated by the committee on a regular basis. Evaluation objectives relate to the goals of the USU and GSN Mission and Strategic Plans and GSN terminal objectives. It describes the process for GSN programmatic evaluation and assessment of student outcomes. It includes a detailed description for each GSN department showing Departmental Evaluation Plans and copies of all evaluation methods/tools used in the evaluation program.
3. Committee Composition
The Committee shall be composed of three ex officio members and six members appointed by the Dean upon the recommendations of the Faculty Council, including a member from the VA/DoD Distance Learning Program. The ex officio members are the Department of Nursing Research Biostatistician, the Program Administration Specialist, and the GSN Executive Assistant. The committee chair shall be selected by the Committee.
4. Meeting/Evaluation Plan Administration
a) The Program Administration Specialist of the Department of Nursing Research shall prepare the meeting minutes and forward them to the Dean. All faculty shall be routinely informed of Evaluation Committee decisions during GSN Faculty Council and All Faculty Meetings. The Committee is responsible for developing the procedures for administering the process and for disseminating the results. Each department chair is responsible for reviewing and acting on the results of the evaluations.
b) The Program Administration Specialist is responsible for administering all facet s of the program to include maintaining the databases (courses/semester taught, student passwords, alumni addresses) for each department, posting the course evaluations on the Internet web page, downloading the data, analyzing, and preparing reports of the results. The reports are then distributed to the Department Chairs for further dissemination and final action. Documentation of actions taken will be reflected in departmental minutes, P&Ps of the GSN and other management guidance.
