FACULTY HANDBOOK- ACADEMIC DEPARTMENTS AND SECTIONS
The functions that are listed for the academic departments do not include certain functions common to faculty members in all departments. The following are those functions:
Internal administration: The President of the University and the Dean of the Graduate School of Nursing (GSN) appoint faculty members to committees and working groups that help the President and the President's staff manage the University.
External administration: Faculty members serve on committees, boards, and working groups for many professional and scientific organizations and publications. This activity advances knowledge, maintains the faculty members' professional standing, and enhances the reputation of the University.
Patient care: Faculty members who are physicians and nurses take care of patients in Federal and military clinics and hospitals throughout the Washington, D. C., area. This activity maintains the clinical skills of these clinicians, helps them serve as clinical role models for the students, and enhances the reputation of the University.
