Patient Simulation Laboratory
With simulation, your first time "for real" doesn't have to be your first time
USU Patient Simulation Laboratory, founded in 1997, is a collaborative project between the National Naval Medical Center's Department of Anesthesiology and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences' Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Genetics and Department of Anesthesiology. Since its inception, the Patient Simulation Laboratory has created simulations for the following:
- Courses in each of the four years of the USU School of Medicine
- The Nurse Anesthesia Program in the Graduate School of Nursing
- Anesthesia Crisis Resource Management for the National Capitol Area residency program
- Graduate Intensive Care Nursing program at WRAMC
- Military medical readiness training with the USAF Critical Care Air Transport Teams and the USN USNS COMFORT Medical Treatment Facility staff
In addition, the clinical teaching features of simulation have been extended to large lecture halls via the Advanced Distance Education Network, a joint USU and CERMUSA project providing Internet2/Next Generation Internet compatible infrastructure within USU and links to NNMC.
